FIVE TOP PRIORITIES FOR THE REICH COLLEGE OF EDUCATION
Based upon UNC STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS FOR THE PLANNING PERIOD 2006-2011
1.Construct a new facility for the Reich College of Education that combines instruction, research, and service in ways that provide greater access to the resources and expertise of the college and that is designed to meet the needs of lifelong learning for education and professional personnel in related areas.
2.Meet and/or exceed the enrollment, retention, and graduation targets established for 2005-2010 for undergraduate and graduate programs, by •Increasing targeted recruitment efforts for both on and off campus programs •Increasing the presence of students from under-represented groups in all RCOE programs; Continuing to refine, reshape, and/or add teacher, administrator, and health related undergraduate and advanced programs that include strong discipline content, pedagogy, and clinical training as well as strong partnerships with K-12 schools and community colleges to ensure that graduates and RCOE's programs are meeting the needs of the region and state;
3.Increase the range, quality and amount of resources and services (e.g., academic advising, assessment data collection, administrative staffing, clinical facilities, instructional technology, and special programs [i.e., after school tutoring/enrichment programs, reading clinic, Teaching Fellows, professional development schools]) for students, faculty and staff in the RCOE as well as for support of the college's partnerships with K-12 schools, community colleges, and other agencies.
4.Develop support systems to encourage faculty to engage in creative activities and basic and applied research for the discovery, dissemination, and application of new knowledge; encourage collaborative relationships in these efforts between faculty and external partners such as public school and community college personnel as well as social and health related agencies; and increase the amount of external funding from both the public and private sectors to provide additional support for these efforts.
5.Support and expand student and faculty participation in international study by increasing student participation in exchange programs, integrating international experiences within existing curricula, promoting the use of technology to make programs available across international boundaries, and expanding the presence of international students and faculty within the college.
