STRATEGIC PLAN FOR USES OF TECHNOLOGY
2005-2010
DRAFT
The Reich College of Education, as a community of practice, embraces the exploration of the many ways that educational technology can enliven the teaching/learning process. Educational technology is understood to be the process of applying tools for educational purposes. Those tools and their uses are constantly evolving but include such devices as computers, videocassette recorders, video and still cameras, CD-ROMs, scanners and the whole variety of software and accessories that can be used with such devices. Our vision of the role technology plays within this community is to create the disposition among our students, faculty, and staff towards ongoing, appropriate, and effective uses of technology across a wide array of learning and work settings for the lifetime of the student, faculty member, and staff person.
The Reich College of Education will create an environment in which the widest possible range of teaching/learning technologies are available to students, faculty, staff, and administration. We want each member of the community to be fully able to apply the most appropriate technology to the teaching/learning/SUPPORT task at hand. We also encourage the creation and use of new models of thinking and conceptualization to inform our choices regarding the technology we choose to apply in learning, teaching, research and service.
The Reich College of Education has identified the following goals as its top priorities for the use of technology in support of its mission in teaching, learning, research and service:
Strategic Planning Statement
The technology planning efforts focus on identifying key resources, services, and initiatives to provide efficient and reliable options to the RCOE user base of faculty, staff, and students.
Some of the factors we use in the decision-making process are as follows:
Increasing distance learning challenges
Web-based document sharing: handbooks, syllabi annual reporting, accredidations reports....
Coordinate with Campus wide initiatives and off campus partners
"Something we may want to include in any planning for the future is resources for faculty developing distance learning courses or doing significant updating of courses to include more technology....funding that would give faculty release time, GA support, software and equipment could be part of this" Dick
